Sometimes a collage comes together before I fully understand what it is trying to say.
When I look at this piece now, I realize it isn’t really about recovery. It’s about what comes after.
The wheat field stretches across the top like a horizon. To me, it represents possibility, growth, and the cycles of life. Horizons are not endings. They are what becomes visible once you’ve traveled far enough to see beyond where you’ve been.
Throughout the collage are symbols that spoke to me as I worked. Lavender represents calmness and serenity. Sunflowers symbolize optimism, vitality, and joy. The words I chose—Heart, Peace, and Symbol of Change—reflect how I have been feeling lately.
The figure at the center feels quiet and reflective. She isn’t rushing toward something or running from something. She is simply present.
At the bottom of the collage is the edge of a road. For me, it represents a crossing point. Not a finish line, but a transition into a new season of life.
For a long time, my focus was on getting through treatment, recovery, and the next challenge. These days, I find myself asking a different question:
Who do I want to be now that I’m here?
