One thing I am passionate about that I haven’t discussed previously is animal welfare, especially dogs. I have a rescue dog named Lucy. We have had 4 rescues in all over the years, some of them overlapping. Since our dog Stella passed away a few years ago, we have only had one dog. Because adding another full-time dog isn’t practical due to my health drama, I have fostered a few dogs. Most recently, over Memorial Day weekend, we temporarily fostered a sweet young dog named Oke. We had him only for the weekend.
I had said to myself that is what I should stick to—temporary fostering for people who go out of town and need coverage. However, the need for fosters at DeKalb County Animal Shelter (and Fulton County) has been staggering. Last weekend, I tried to pick up a dog to foster and wasn’t able to. Of course, there’s a new list this week. I REALLY wanted to go again this week. Les wasn’t supportive of the idea because I have a lot going on over the next week. How does this relate to my artwork?
I’ll admit it. I was pouting about not being able to rescue this week. I might have been a little bit angry too, haha. So, to get out my anger, I composed these two abstract mixed-media collages. I am so happy with how they turned out.

It is so nice to have a creative outlet to help me work through whatever feelings I’m working through. And I like these so much; there’s a part of me that wonders if I could sell them on Etsy.
I have looked at different accounts there to get some tips. I think I will do it, but I would need to get up a supply first. This is something I have longed to do, but in what format do I sell them? Do I have them made into canvas? Do I have them matted? All fun things to think about.
A final thought about the dogs and fostering. There have been a few days this week when I have felt a little weak. Not sick, but just a little dizzy and needing some extra rest. It was a wise decision not to foster at the moment. I am so sad, but it is the right decision for right now. Now the hard part–I’ll have to admit to my husband that he was right🥴. Angie
