Giant Moths are My Spirit Animal (Apparently)

Two years ago, on August 24, 2026, a huge moth was perched on the back window of my house. I knew immediately that it was something special. After a little research, I learned that it was a Luna Moth. And, indeed, it was special. Seeing one is rare, as they only live about 7 days and only fly at night. Its symbolism is from the universe: it symbolizes personal transformation; it’s important to keep your attention on your goals. It can be a sign to engage in personal care. At the point that it came to visit me, I was about 2 years post my first transplant. I was at a time of feeling better and learning a lot about my new self. It was so emotional to see that moth. It was beautiful and HUGE. It’s wing span was the length of my cell phone, about 6 inches.

Now, fast forward to four days ago, August 26th. Early in the morning, about 6:45 am I went on my back deck, and there on the lower portion of the door was another huge moth with completely different markings but huge just the same. This one’s wing span was about 5″ vs 6″ of the Luna Moth. I couldn’t believe I had another visitor from the universe! This time the moth is called an Imperial Moth. It is also rarely seen for the same reasons as the Luna Moth, only flies at night and has a very short lifespan. The yellow/gold symbolizes optimism and emerging creativity. It is oftern considering an encouraging “nudge” toward your goals. The brown/purple represents grounding and stability.

Later in the day, it had moved, and you could really see its colors better, especially the bright yellow. My friend stayed the entire day. I am so unbelievably thankful to have had another encounter with a large moth. Why it’s relatable to my life right now is that I had just decided that I would like to explore selling art on Etsy. If you refer to my last post, you can see my most recent collages and read how happy I was with how they turned out.

I even ordered them and 2 other collages on canvases; we’ll see how they turn out.

I don’t know why the universe keeps sending me these beautiful beings, but their visits are comforting and powerful. I also think they are a wink from my mom and dad, letting me know they are still watching out for me.

Do you have an animal or maybe a bird that is a “wink” from someone or something? Angie
