Cancer Treatment & Tips:
- PET scans: many times you’ll have to drink a barium drink. If possible get, mocha flavored and drink it cold. The berry flavor is disgusting. If you really think you can’t handle it, you can refuse to drink it. They can get images without it. Also, side note, if you’re having a bone marrow biopsy the same day, you don’t have to drink the barium, because you have to have an empty stomach.
- Bone Marrow Biopsy: Always insist on having a CT-guided bone marrow biopsy performed by a radiologist. You will be under light/twilight sedation and will have no pain. Never agree to do it without sedation and in an office. I did one time and it was terrible. So much pain!
